ISMNZ Staff Worker & Volunteer Retreat
By popular demand, we are going to El Rancho for our 2021 Staff Worker and Volunteer Retreat!
How do I get there?
1. By road:
For those travelling from Wellington City and other parts of North Island, there is plenty of parking available on site. Please indicate on your registration form if you might be able to offer others a ride.
2. By flight to Wellington then road:
For Friday 24 September, we would recommend booking a flight arriving into Wellington late morning or early afternoon. For Sunday 26 September, pick a flight leaving Wellington in the evening.
El Rancho is another 1 hour drive from Wellington airport and 1.5 hour drive from Palmerston North airport. Please indicate on your registration form the details of your flights (i.e. the day and time it arrives and departs) in order for us to arrange your transportation to and/or from the airport to El Rancho.
3. Train from Wellington
Trains leave Wellington Central railway station every 20 minutes for Waikanae and cost about $12. From Wellington airport to the station a taxi costs $30-$45 so would be cost effective for say 4 people, or more if you get a van taxi.
4. By flight to Paraparaumu:
Air Chathams flies from Auckland into Paraparaumu airport, which is much closer to El Rancho - 13 minute drive. For those coming from Auckland or who fly via Auckland, prices are sometimes cheaper than Air NZ to Wellington and there is a flight that gets in to Paraparaumu 3-50 PM on Fridays.
What should I bring?
You will need to bring:
- towel and personal toiletries
- comfortable shoes for walking
- water bottle
- top bedding or a linen set

Recommendations from our Waikanae local :)
The cafe at 1 Waimea Road on the map is closed right now but should reopen by the retreat as Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen. This is a very good Thai restaurant with its first site in Whitby - good value.
Long Beach cafe is my pick of the local restaurants, but is usually very busy so booking would be a good idea.
The Front Room is also very good.
Can I bring my children?
There will not be a programme for children but children are welcome. Please discuss with us for details.
