Testimony of a student from East Asia

31/3/2016

Hi everyone. My name is Tom. My wife is Jane who was baptised in 2014. She came to Wellington 2 years ago for her studies and I joined her in church about 1 year ago. We love this beautiful country. It is said that God copied heaven when He made New Zealand!

When I was a 2nd year university student in East Asia, two American Christians came to our dorm to tell people about Jesus. I asked them why Americans were fighting in Iraq? Why doesn’t God stop the war and save innocent lives? I was dissatisfied with their answer and I did not think God existed.

I met Jane at university; we married and had a baby daughter. But we were facing marriage conflicts and did not have peace and satisfaction in East Asia. Jane said she may not be able to carry on the marriage.

We did not expect to come to New Zealand but God opened the door for us when a professor offered Jane a full PhD scholarship. Here in Wellington Jane became a follower of Jesus.

When I came to Wellington 1 year ago Jane was facing a very tough situation with her studies. We continued to face marriage conflicts. I became anxious and worried and got angry easily. In our troubles we were helped and supported by our Christian family here.

I realised I could not control my life and solve all my problems without God. I turned to Jesus and surrendered my life to Him as my Saviour and Lord. Galatians 2:20 says. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body I live by faith in the son of God who loved me and gave himself for me”. That is what happened to me.

Since then the troubles haven’t all gone away. But the door is opening again for Jane’s study, and our marriage is getting better. We are experiencing God’s peace and joy and witnessing together how God is caring for us.
I had delayed my plan for baptism. Then I thought, if baptism symbolises a wedding, I ask myself, am I waiting for a really good bridegroom? No, God is the perfect bridegroom!

Am I waiting to know everything about God? No I can’t, no one can!

Am I waiting for a perfect timing? Okay, right now, this very moment is the perfect timing. I want to be baptised before my church family and declare my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you, everyone!
