Volunteering with ISMNZ

Volunteers are very important to all parts of the effective operation of ISMNZ. This includes the Board, administrative work, relationship building with International students, leading Bible study groups and hospitality. We appreciate your willingness to serve the Lord as a volunteer.

We require every volunteer:

To provide the names of two referees, at least one of whom should be an ISMNZ worker, pastor or elder at your church
To agree to a reference/ police check as part of our screening process where required. A police check will be taken for all fieldwork volunteers.

Code of Conduct

This code of conduct serves to clarify the expectations ISMNZ has for volunteer behaviour and conduct towards everyone involved in the ministry at all times.

We expect all volunteers to abide by this code of conduct at all times and in all dealings with the people involved in the ministry. Please remember that we are serving students from a variety of cultures. What might be deemed acceptable in one culture could well be perceived negatively in another. The onus and responsibility is always on the volunteers to behave appropriately.

Please read the code of conduct and signify your agreement by ticking each item in the box.

I will: *

teach as truth only doctrines that are consistent with ISMNZ’s Statement of Faith and not require adherence to any additional doctrine as evidence of or requirement for faith or for Christian living (See ISMNZ’s Statement of Faith in Appendix 1).

take responsibility for my own behaviour and act in the best interests of our international students, behaving as a disciple of Jesus should towards those placed in my care.

refrain from using ethnic or racial slurs or similarly derogatory terms or statements (humorous or otherwise) regarding race, gender, sexuality or political views.

use caution when receiving or providing physical contact with people of either gender, including gestures of comfort as such gestures can be unwanted or misinterpreted.

use caution in initiating and pursuing one-on-one social contacts (including dating) with students of the opposite gender.

gain approval from my ISMNZ supervisor prior to providing hospitality in my home to students, whether singly or in groups.

treat everyone, students, colleagues and education provider staff, with respect and compassion.

cooperate fully with my assigned ISMNZ supervisor and perform the tasks allocated to me to the best of my ability.
